For the first time in its history of 35 years, the Volvo Ocean Race will have a stopover in India. Cochin, the commercial capital of Kerala and a high spender’s destination will host the participants for 10 days before the race proceeds on its 3 rd leg.
The Volvo Ocean Race is the most prestigious and spectacular round the world marathon ocean yacht racing competition, seen as the ultimate in extreme adventure sporting. The Race will commence its sailing in October 2008 and cover more than 39,000 nautical miles, visiting 11 ports across the world.
The Cochin Port Trust and the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala plans to make this event a grand spectacle on a scale that has never been seen before.
An entire race village has been set up at the Cochin port, offering a 10-day visual extravaganza of the most exciting water sport action the city has ever witnessed. A flurry of activities has been organized from the arrival of the racing yachts on the 3 rd of December till its departure on the 13 th of December.
A grand exhibition “Ocean Race Trade Fest” will be set up at the village providing exceptional and unparalleled sales and business opportunities to the Corporate and Business houses.
